Coventry Conversation – Paul Abbott

The second Coventry Converstation featured the writer of shameless Paul Abbott. Were he talked about the new eighth series of Shameless and also introduced a preview of the American Shameless which not many people have seen! so we were very honoured.

It was a great experience to learn more behind the scenes of writing shameless, Paul Abbott talked about the narrative and content of shameless and how it is nothing like anything on television. Its not a soap, its not a sitcom, There hasnt been anything like shameless on television so far and I think that is what makes it so successful.

In the first series of Shameless they built a council estate right in the middle of an existing council estate and often used local people for actors as it portrayed the narrative more realistic as they acting out there real life.

Paul finshed his first ever shameless script ten and a half years ago and now they are in the middle of filming an eighth series that is some impressive work. Many people wonder why it is still so popular and why it has been so successfully. A few of the main reason why he feels that it has been so well loved by audience members is down to the fact that it deals with real life situations and is very unique in itself as I said before there is nothing like it on television, which creates an uniquie market.
