Males : In terms of the represenation of gender, men tend to be represented and stereotyped to be the strong, powerful figure this is evident in many films such as Die hard which stars “Bruce Willis” as the main character. The narrative is constructed around the idea that this one man can save them all and that it all depends on him.
Female : In comparision to how males are represented female are the opposite in may ways but also contridicts itself as being represented the same. Females are often stereotyped in to this idea of them staying at home and cooking, cleaning the house and taking care of the children. This idea of a housewife goes right back to the 1920’s.
Within Films the represenation of both genders has significally changed and developed. In terms of the represenation of females, you now have characters such as lara croft, angelia jolie in Salt,Wanted,Mr and Mrs Smith in which she plays strong, powerful characters. This breaks the typically stereotype of a “housewoman”. I think its fair to say that both male and females have come to share an equal represenation over the past 10-15 years and both genders are becoming more fairly represented.
